I admit, I enjoy... 80's Movies

I love 80's movies, the romantic comedies, the teenage movies, comedies, horror, etc.
I have shared some of these movies with my daughters who in turn learn to love them as well, at least some of them.
Some of my favorite movies from the 80's are, in no particular order:
  • Shag (1989)
  • Satisfaction (1988)
  • Chances Are (1989)
  • Little Shop of Horrors (1986)
  • Goonies (1985)
  • Never Ending Story (1984)
  • Beetle Juice (1998)
  • E.T. (1982)
  • Weird Science (1985)
  • Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
  • Annie (1982)
  • The Karate Kid (1984)

  • Commando (1985)
  • American Ninja (1985)
  • Poltergeist (1982)
  • Aliens (1986)
  • Ghost Busters (1984)
  • *Batteries Not Included (1987)
  • Adventures in Babysitting (1987)
  • Fright Night (1985)

  • Girls Just Want to Have Fun (1985)
  • Three Fugitives (1989)
  • Cloak and Dagger (1984)
  • Firestarter (1984)
  • Cat's Eye (1985)
  • Babes in Toyland (1986)
  • Tuff Turf (1985)
  • The Man with two brains (1983)
  • Three Amigos (1986)
  • Roxanne (1987)

  • When Harry Met Sally (1989)
  • Back to School (1986)
  • Johnny Be Good (1988)
  • Great Balls of Fire (1989)
And I am sure this is not all of them, but just a few that I still remember. But it seemed that back in the 80's when I was a pre-teen I spent most of my time watching TV and Movies. It was an obsession, and even when the 90's where starting I would continue going to the Video Rental Place and choosing 80's movies. I remember there was a time, maybe a particular summer when my aunt would go to the video rental place and we would choose about 7 movies and we would watch them back to back to back. It was crazy, but I loved it, and it is part of many fond memories of my childhood.

This post made me realize how different movies where back then and I also realized how many of these movies I liked and they where action movies. Currently I don't watch many action movies anymore, mainly because it's just one explosion after the other and the high tech capabilities of this decade makes them way too much. I don't know, maybe I should give action movies of today a little brake, who knows, I might like them.

What are your favorite 80's movies?

The 10 Days to You Challenge - Three Films - Day 8

This is going to be a hard one. I don't think I can think of only 3 movies that I like, not even only 3 movies that had touched me. But I guess I will write 3 films that have some kind of importance to me. But I know it's going to be very hard.

Once again in no particular order:

*Only You - With Robert Downey Jr and Marisa Tomei. It's in Italy is Romantic, and it talks about topics like destiny and true love. This movie was in a Tie with another Robert Downey Jr movie that I've seen over 50 times and I'm not kidding and it's Chances Are, with Cybill Shepard. It's also about true love and destiny. Totally two of my favorite movies from RDJ.

*Ever After, a Cinderella Story - Also in my second "film" I'm going to be cheating by including some other movies about the same actor with similar topics. This movie by Drew Barrymore touched me very much, it makes me cry every time, like most movies about strong women that achieve good things. I like this story because it portrays Cinderella as a humble yet very strong woman. Very powerful and a great role model for young girls, better than the defenseless portrayals of princesses in other movies. Two other movies by Drew that include strong women achieving great things is Riding in Cars with Boys about the journey of a single mom who got pregnant in her teens but was able to raise her child and become a famous writer at the end. She was able to win over the adversities that presented themselves in her life, and Whip It! also by Drew Barrymore because it shows a girl who fights for what she loves, and goes after her goals no matter how hard it is. Very strong female role-models in my opinion.

*Tuff Turf - This was the first movie I ever saw of Robert Downey Jr when I was 11 years old. I must say this impacted the way I led my life for the following 18 years. Obsessing about Robert Downey Jr until I finally met him in 2005. What I loved about this movie, even though it has gang activity, bullying and other inappropriate behavior that I would not allow my 10 year old to see, but back in the day I was impressed with Robert Downey Jr because he was a great friend in the movie, he risked his life to save his friend and he was a hero to me. It also deals with topics like fighting back against bullying and being a friend to the new kid in town. About being ok with being yourself. And a few other movies that had similar impact were Satisfaction (Girls of Summer) with Justine Bateman and the Julia Roberts before she was famous. It's about a band of 3 girls and one boy. It deals also with themes about finding yourself, being true to yourself, a little bit of love and exploring life. And Shag (the movie) this one with Phoebe Cates who was a sensation back then in the 80's. It's about teenage girls going out on vacation after high school and having fun one last time before one of them is supposed to get married. It's also about discovery and being one's self.

As you can see these are mainly 3 topics of movies that I like and there are way more that I could include on this list, but I'm supposed to put only three.

So what do you say? What are your favorite movies? what has impacted your life?

And come back for day 9 of the challenge with Two Songs. This is going to be even harder than the 3 films!

What creates a Spark in you?

My awesome Friend Valerie wrote a great post called The Secret Life of a Wannabe Writer and she got me thinking about when I was younger and how much I loved celebrity things, TV shows and Movie Trivia, how I watched my favorite Robert Downey JR and Drew Barrymore movies over 50 times each. I would learn every single scene, what music was playing in the background, what people would say, and my lips would move with every word uttered by the actors on the screen. I would collect movie memorabilia and searched constantly on Video Rental Places for the latest movie posters and/or movie cardboard cutouts to put in my bedroom.
Most of my thoughts were dedicated to movies, TV shows, Books of Fantasy and my Dream Journals where I would write all the dreams I had and would then go back and finish up the stories. I would create alternate situations, different endings, etc. I spent most of my childhood daydreaming and to tell you the truth I don't recall much of my real life events, especially 4th Grade, I have no recollection what so ever of being 9. Don't remember what teacher I had, who were my friends, where I lived, what I did, nothing. As I grew up I got married and left that world behind, and tried to concentrate on the present and live in the here and now. But I must admit that for many years I felt awkward, as if I did not know how to live as I was not used to it. I left my dreams behind and concentrated on being content with everything that was presented to me. I decided not to dream, not to want, not to wish for things that I did not believe I could have. After many years I finally realized by discovering the Law of Attraction that the way to be happy and get the best things in life is to have a very specific desire of what you want, to feel that you deserve it, that you can achieve anything and everything that you want, and here I was being content, thinking I did not deserve anything that I didn't already have, not wanting anything, forcing myself to separate from beautiful things, exotic things, fancy things, beautiful houses, nice cars I would refuse to even look at catalogs or magazines that had images of things that most people would love to have, beautiful houses, elegant clothes, beautiful hair, nice make-up, healthy bodies, etc. because seeing these images would cause a reaction in my body of desire for these things and because I believed that I was not capable of getting them so I decided to put them in the back of my mind and forget they even existed. But now I know the secret, and it is that we have to expose ourselves to all those images and thoughts of those things we want, because we deserve to have everything we want, we can have all these things, the world is abundant and it has more than enough things for every single one of us. But we need to be specific, we need to want, we need to ask, we need to have the deep emotional desire to get whatever we want to get and we will receive. So now I am working on bringing back my desire for all these things that make my life happy.
Have you found your spark yet? What makes you happy? Are you open to receive all these happy things in your life?
